I’ve seen this go around a few times and don’t get me wrong, it’s freaking hilarious, but it is actually an article from Lark News, which is basically like The Onion, all the articles are satirical/parody and therefore fictional. The website focuses only on “Christian News”, most of it is absurdist to some degree like this article, but some of it is much less tongue in cheek and more pointedly aimed at the “Religious Right”. After I found it was the source of this article I poked around a little, and I’m not a Christian but if I were I would probably be really uncomfortable with some of their stuff. They don’t seem to have copywriters as skilled in penning things that are blatantly hilarious like The Onion does, so some of it comes off as more smug and condescending of anyone with ANY religious beliefs, not just Evangelical/Born Again/Super Conservative/ Christians.

All of that being said, the mental image of a white dude who looks like that guy, probably in khakis and a button down, pitching a major tent and gnawing his way through a raw potato while praying and/or singing “Contemporary Christian” music is comedy good, IMO. Frankly I’m trying not to laugh right now so as not to wake Ian up and I’m twitching like a methhead bc a raw potato. A raw. Potato. My new favorite fake punishment/ act of self penance. Maybe I should keep a raw potato on my desk at school on a little trophy plaque that says “Didn’t do your homework? Put your hands on a classmate? Swore? Lied? Lied about lying, swearing, putting your hands on someone AND didnt do your homework? Meet my friend Mr. Potato Head”

Plus, eating a whole raw potato usually just turns me on even more.

I say it with a hard ‘G’ because 20 years ago when I started messing with GIFs there was no one to tell me how to pronounce it correctly. I chose the most logical pronunciation and went with it. When you get used to saying something a certain way for 20 years… that’s pretty much how you are going to say it no matter how incorrect someone tells you it is.

It’s like someone trying to tell you “Sun” is actually pronounced wombatnards. It’s going to take an awful lot of effort to train your brain to say “I got a really bad wombatnardsburn today. I should have used more wombatnardsblock.”
