Nerdist.Com Interviews Joe Madureira
Nerdist: I have to ask – will we ever see more Battle Chasers? People have been dying for a wrap-up after the cliffhanger of #9.
Joe Madureira: That’s probably the question I get more than any other (except maybe how to pronounce my name). It’s a tough one. I still love Battle Chasers — that world and the characters, and I have to be honest, when I’m working on comics that aren’t BC, even something as awesome as my childhood dream like Spider-Man, I occasionally feel like… “WTF am I doing, why am I not drawing Battle Chasers right now?!” Let’s just say I’ve thought about it a great deal over the years. I do have some projects I need to do before I get back to it, but it’s on the bucket list…
Oh, it’s on the bucket list. That’s nice. That’s good. We’ve only been waiting over a god damn decade for it. I like that he says he feels like “WTF am I doing, why am I not drawing Battle Chasers right now?!” because that’s how a lot of the fans feel.
“Oh, Joe Mad is coming back to comics? Ooh, maybe we’ll get Battle Chasers #10- Avenging Spider-Man? Oh. Oh, that’s cool.”
I’m thrilled he’s coming back to comics and I can honestly wait for more Battle Chasers, because I’ll buy anything he’s doing anyway, but I just find it funny that he’s asked this question EVERY SINGLE TIME SOMEONE GETS THE CHANCE TO.
NOTHING ABOUT THIS I DO NOT LOVE.
This will never not make me laugh.
I’m only twenty-seven episodes of the Nerdist podcast away from being caught up.
Um, yay. I guess. I don’t know. I mean, that’s a lot and the number keeps growing because they keep putting new episodes out (which I refuse to complain about), so it’ll take me a while to listen to all of that Nerdisty goodness. Because I’ve vowed to only listen to the podcast while walking. It’s a weight loss thing. So if there’s an episode I’m particularly excited for, I will walk for an hour straight just to listen to it. Even if I have nowhere to go. It’s actually helped in the whole weight loss thing quite a lot.
However, the other side to it is… I kind of don’t want to be caught up. I like the idea of there being this ever-growing archive of episodes I haven’t heard yet just waiting for me. So if I get all caught up with the latest episode and then have to wait for every episode after that, it’ll be a totally different experience.
I love this podcast, you guys. See:
If they come through Minneapolis again next year, I’m going to take this picture with me and be like “Remember this overweight dude who did the thumbs-up scared face in his picture with you? I AM THAT OVERWEIGHT DUDE ONLY I AM NOT AS OVERWEIGHT AS I WAS AT THAT POINT IN TIME. Thanks, guys.”
THESE GUYS. THESE GUYS RIGHT HERE. THESE FUCKING GUYS.
Talkin' Toons
If you’re not listening to Rob Paulsen’s Talkin’ Toons podcast, I feel bad for you.
If you don’t know who Rob Paulsen is, I feel even worse for you.
RELATED SIDE NOTE: This episode of the Nerdist podcast, with guests Rob Paulsen and Maurice LaMarche (PINKY & THE BRAIN!), may be my favorite episode of Nerdist ever. Ever. You get to hear Pinky & The Brain swearing, a bunch of great voice actor-y stories, plus Rob does the Yakko’s World song.
NERDIST PODCAAAAAAAAAAST!
So, the early Nerdist Podcast show last night at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis was pretty rockin’. They had a super secret special guest (I hear the late show got TWO guests!) and I won’t tell you who it was, but I will tell you that he was really high and his name rhymes with Shmoug Smenson.
Also, he was horrible at being a secret guest, because he kept peeking from behind the curtain.
After the podcast (which was fantastic), they herded all of us upstairs and lined us up for a chance to meet the Nerdist crew. As I was waiting in line, watching everyone else get their photos taken, I realized that every photo was them making funny faces, or looking pissed at whoever they were taking the photo with, or striking some hilariously weird poses, so I thought “Okay, when I get up there, I’m going to also make a weird face, because that way the photo will look complete, as opposed to all of the other photos where the person is grinning madly and the guys are making weird faces! It’ll be great!”
So, of course, my photo they’re all smiling and I’m the one making the “HOLY SHIT HELP ME” face. Also, not the best picture of me. But I don’t really care.
Yes, we ate burritos on the way. And yes we enjoyed them.
